Ruskin Junior Womens Club Events 2008-2009
 

September 26th 2008, Annual Spaghetti Dinner to help raise money for the purchase of pumpkins for the 10 elementary schools in the South Shore Area.  Each Class within the schools received a pumpkin to decorate in accordance with a book that was read.  In some schools the pumpkins were put on display for all to see during the month of October.

 

October 2008 – Pumpkins were delivered to the 10 Elem Schools.

 

November 2008 – Veterans Day Parade:  We had three antique automobiles, ride the parade route carrying the Tomato Queen and her court.  The RJWC walked along side the cars handing out candy and flags.

 

Can Food Drive held at Ruskin Elementary, Was a big hit.  Took three trucks to carry all the can’s etc. to the Food Banks in the South Shore Area.  Worked closely with Ruskin Chamber of Commerce with this project.

 

December 2008 – Annual Cookie Exchange for club members.  Held at Carolyn Jones’s home this year. Invited the Women’s Club Members better known as the (Generals). Exchanged cookies, and ornaments, great food too! 

 

Another Can Drive with Ruskin Elementary School, again another hit.  Had all cans etc. picked up by the Food Pantry in Wimauma known as the Lady of Guadalupe.    They were thrilled.

 

Annual Christmas Party held at Erica Schaub’s home.  Bring a covered Dish!

 

January 2009 – Change of the Gavel, Morgandee resigned and Carolyn Jones took over as the New President for the remainder of the time.

 

17th Cleaned the Clubhouse as an expression of gratitude to the General’s Club.

 

February 2009 – Bunko Night  for our New Membership Drive held at the Clubhouse.  Pot Luck, fun and prizes.

 

Paper Drive:  Benefit for the Mary and Martha House, they are at capacity and in need of paper towels, napkins, tissue and toilet paper.  Delivered March 28th,  two car loads full.

 

March 2009

March 26th,  2nd Annual Ruskin Business and Health Expo, it was a success, we had 16 girls visit our table and they seemed truly interested in our club.  They filled out cards for a drawing to have the Easter Bunny visit there home for Easter.  I invited the girls to our meeting in May. 

 

March 29th, RJWC held a Gold Party at the clubhouse to raise money for Homebound Schools, we processed 11 people with gold and collected $550.00.  We met with a representative from the school (our very own Lydia Lewis)  and were able to purchase their entire wish list.

 

April 2009

Convention in Orlando:  Carolyn, Amber, Natalie and Krystal attended Spring Convention, we participated in the “Tablescape” entries, called it “Tuscan Christmas”, and we won the Presidents' Choice award.  Also we attended seminars and brought back lot’s of good ideas. 

May 2009

May 5-6;   RJWC was hired by Mosaic in Riverview to provide lunches for 400 of their employees.  It was during their inventory time; we served 200 people each day, Pulled pork, yellow rice, black beans, salad and a brownie for dessert.  We raised $3000.00 which enabled us to be able to give $1000.00 to Lennard High School’s Agriculture class; this class won the state championship and needed to raise money so that the class could attend nationals in Utah this summer representing our state.

Meeting was cancelled for this month. 

July 2009
July 9th Krystal Selke threw in her hat for the "Honorary Mayor of Ruskin Race"

July 12th was our Gun Safety Class held at Gun Craft in Ruskin Florida.  5 of our members participated in the group of 30 to receive there certificate in Gun Safety.  Everyone who participated in the class received a certificate and will be able to apply for their Concealed Weapons Permit. 

July 10th we kicked off the "Pampered Chef" on line fundraiser to help support Literacy in the Southshore area schools.   We will purchase pumpkins with the money raised and give one to each classroom.  The teachers read a book outloud to their class  and they decorate the pumpkins to resemble one of the characters in the book.  The pumpkins are put on display for the fall festivals in the schools and are voted on.  The winning classes receive a party of their choice.

October 2009
October 12th - Football Party at Beanie's to raise money for the Mayor's Race,  Football pool, lot's of great raffle items, drink koozie's for sale........great food and fun for the whole family.
